Our Governance Structure

Good governance is fundamental to what we do and we have a framework in place that ensures high standards of governance, health and safety, audit, risk and probity.

Constitution

Established in 1983, Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association is:

  • Constituted as a not for profit Community Benefit Organisation, registered with the Financial Conduct Authority, with written Rules governing how we operate
  • A registered Social Landlord regulated by the Scottish Housing Regulator
  • A Scottish Charity registered with the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator

Membership of the Association costs £1 and is open to people living in our area of operation. Members can attend and vote at general meetings, seek election to the Board and vote in the election of Board members.

The Board

The voluntary Board is the Association’s governing body, with control over key decisions and strategic direction. Our Rules permit a Board of up to 15 members. Our Office Bearers, (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary) are elected annually by the Board.

Board Structure

The Board has established one sub committee which is the Audit Finance and Risk Committee to which it delegates certain responsibilities. The Association also has one wholly-owned subsidiary company.

Currently we have 12 Board members, two of whom are co-opted members and five contribute to the Sub-Committee. 11 of our Board members are from the Association’s membership and one member has been co-opted by the Board.

Become a Member

The Association is formed from a membership base of individuals and organisations who hold one-off share subscriptions of one pound. There are currently 78 members and we encourage the widest possible membership to reflect the interests of the community we serve. We particularly encourage our tenants, sharing owners and equity sharers to become members and to participate in the activities of the Association, as well as community and representative groups.
